We live in a great country. It is important to think about what makes our country so great. We have liberty. The Constitution protects our liberty. The goverment's power is limited by the Constitution. Our goverment is divided into three branches, the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch. The three branches use checks and balances to keep each other from becoming too powerful.
There are two Houses in Congress. The House of Representatives and the Senate. It takes a majority of both Houses to pass a law. The President can veto the law. It takes two-thirds of both Houses to override the President's veto. The Supreme Court can rule a law unconstitutional. A Supreme Court Justice has to be chosen by the President and approved by the Senate.
Here is a quote from George Washington:
The Constitution includes the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights protects rights such as freedom of speech and freedom of religion. A written Constitution alone is not enough to preserve freedom. A nation where everyone is selfish cannot be free, even if it has a written Constitution. The Consitution needs to supported by good people. Freedom can only exist if there are enough good people who support the Constitution.
Here is a quote from John Adams:
The Constitution is not a living breathing document. The living breathing document philosophy is a lie. It's an attack on the Constitution. It's just an excuse liberals use to ignore and defy the Constitution. Power corrupts. It is human nature to abuse power. That's why the Constitution was written. The Constitution is designed to limit the power of the goverment. Society changes, the economy changes, but human nature never changes. So the Constitution will never ever be outdated.
Our country is not a direct democracy. We vote for Representatives and Senators. The Representatives and Senators make laws. We don't vote directly on laws. We vote for President, but it's the electors who count. The Constitution has safeguards to protect minority rights from the majority. For example, the majority can't restrict free speech or free religion of the minority because the first amendment safeguards free speech and free religion.
Here is a quote I've heard:
I'm not sure who said that quote, but someone said it. Whoever said it has a good point.
The key to success is work and knowledge. To succeed, you have to work hard and have the necessary knowledge. One great thing about this country is that people are free to get an education, work hard to pursue their hopes and dreams, and enjoy the fruits of their labor. Socialism robs people of the fruits of their labor. There are a lot of lazy and apathetic people who like it when the goverment steals from the successful and hard working people and gives to the lazy and apathetic people.
One of the lies of socialism is that it only steals from the rich. People with middle income and people with low income get robbed by socialism too. People with taxable income have to pay federal income tax, state income tax(in most states), medicare tax, and social security tax. People also have to pay sales tax.
The current medicare tax rate is 1.45% for the employee and 1.45% for the employer. That's 2.9% total. The current social security tax rate is 6.2% for the employee and 6.2% for the employer. That's 12.4% total. For self-employed people, the medicare tax rate is 2.9% and the social security tax rate is 12.4%. Self-employed people can see the total medicare tax rate and the total social security tax rate, but employees who are not self-employed only see half of those tax rates.
Why is it that half of the tax rates are paid by the employee and the other half of the tax rates are paid by the employer? I think it's because the goverment is trying to hide some of the taxes. They have an unethical tactic of hiding taxes. Not all of the taxes we pay are visible. Some taxes are hidden, and some taxes are unhidden.
A lot of people have the attitude "soak the rich". That is a serious problem. It's discrimination and it's irrational. Being rich isn't a crime. A lot of people work hard to become rich. A tax on the rich isn't just a tax on the rich. A lot of rich people run businesses. It takes a lot of money to run a business. Employers have to pay all of their employees. It takes money for businesses to produce their products.
Even rich people don't have an unlimited supply of money. When taxes are imposed on employers and their businesses, the employers have less money to pay their employees. The employers may have to cut their employees' salaries. They may even have to lay off some employees. Also, businesses have less money to use to produce their products. As a result, fewer products get produced. There has been an observation of how the economy works, known as the law of supply and demand. Supply is how much of something there is. Demand is how many people want it and how much they want it.
The law of supply and demand states that as the supply goes up, prices go down. As the supply goes down, prices go up. As the demand goes up, prices go up. As the demand goes down, prices go down. So when businesses aren't able to produce as many of their products, their products become more expensive. That is a hidden tax on anyone who buys their products. When politicians say their taxes will only affect rich people, don't believe them.
Profits are the businesses' motivation for working and producing. They often raise prices to compensate for tax increases that would hurt their profits. If they can't pass the cost on to their customers, their motivation for working and producing gets hurt. They might even go out of business. Believers of socialism don't pay any attention to the importance of production, the importance of work, or people's motivation to work and produce. Socialism hurts production, robs people of the fruits of their labor and their motivation to work, and encourages idleness.
Socialism does not help people get out of poverty. The system just throws money at them. It teaches them to not work. It robs people of their freedom and independence. Socialism is the roadway to poverty. Our country has more than 19 trillion dollars of debt. The estimated population for America is more than 322 million people. On average, the debt is more than 59 thousand dollars for each citizen. Debt is a promise to tax. It robs future generations. That is morally wrong.
Greece is in big trouble because of socialism. They're in massive debt. Our country is heading in that direction. We should be very concerned. If you like socialism, move to a socialist country and stay there. If you know anyone who likes socialism, tell them to move to a socialist country and stay there.
It is important to help poor people, but it shouldn't be the goverment who does it. The goverment is very bad at helping poor people. Charities and individuals are much better at helping poor people. Helping poor people is the job of charities and individuals, not the goverment. We should help poor people the right way rather than just throw money at them. We should educate them, teach them how to work and be successful, help them find good jobs, help them become free and independent, and help them get out of poverty. Goverment welfare programs do not do that, and they're bankrupting our country.
Charities are run by volunteers. Goverment welfare programs are not run by volunteers. People in the goverment are paid to run the welfare programs. This makes goverment welfare programs way more expensive than charities.
It is unconstitutional for the federal goverment to be running welfare programs. The tenth amendment states that the federal goverment only has powers that are defined in the Constitution. The federal goverment does lots of things that are not defined in the Constitution such as redistributing wealth, getting involved in education, and many other things.
The excuse liberals use for doing this is the clause "promote the general welfare". That shows how far they will go in looking for excuses to do what they want. The clause "promote the general welfare" does not mean that the goverment has unlimited power. The purpose of the Constitution is to limit the power of the goverment. If the founding fathers knew that's how the clause would be interpreted, they might not have put it in there. And if they hadn't put that clause in there, the liberals probably would have found some other excuse, and if the liberals couldn't find an excuse, they would have made up an excuse.
Liberals do not believe in freedom and independence. They want to put the goverment in complete control of everything, and they want to put themselves in complete control of the goverment. They want people to be dependent on their welfare programs. Getting people to depend on welfare programs is like getting people addicted to drugs. That gives the liberals a lot of control over people. There is a political party that is full of liberals, known as the democratic party. Democrats should not be called democrats. They should be called demoncrats.
Liberals are always trying to bypass the Constitution. The most vulnerable amendments in the Constitution are the ninth and tenth amendments. The ninth amendment states that just because certain rights are listed in the Constitution does not mean that other rights may be denied. But because the other rights aren't listed in the Constitution, the other rights are still vulnerable to attack by power seekers.
One example of a right not listed in the Constitution is the right of people to make their own personal choices. I believe that people have the right to make their own personal choices. Liberals don't believe that people have the right to make their own personal choices. They want to make everyones' decisions for everyone. One thing liberals did that violates peoples' right to make their own choices was pass the law Obamacare. Obamacare is a mandate that requires people to buy health insurance. It also requires that peoples' health insurance meets Obamacare's requirements. If people already have health insurance, but their health insurance doesn't meet the requirements, their health insurance gets canceled. In other words, if the goverment likes your health insurance, you can keep it. Not only does Obamacare tell people they have to buy health insurance, Obamacare also tells people what health insurance they can have and what health insurance they can't have.
One reason socialism has become so popular is that college tuition has become way too expensive. Many students have to get into massive debt to pay the college tuition. Bernie Sanders promised "free" college tuition and the students like that. "Free" really means paid for by other people. Taxes will be increased. Later, when the students get jobs, make money, and pay taxes, they will be paying for other students' college tuition. It's really just another way to get into massive debt. The students don't understand the downside of socialism. The students are being conned for their votes. High college tuition is a big problem, but socialism is not the solution. Coming up with real solutions requires thinking carefully and logically, not believing in magic.
Here is a quote from Thomas Jefferson:
