Outdoor camping is at the core of scouting and venturer programs. Outdoor High Adventure provides older youth a unique setting to learn about their world and society. Many boys learn and grow more by doing things hands on in the outdoors. Reward the boys for finding the "outing" in "scouting".

The scout handbook has section where each scout can keep a record of his nights tent camping in the outdoors. These campouts be with any group since he joined scouting - troop, family, school, church, etc.

This award can be recognized in two methods, a) an group camps has over 100 nights camping in a 12 month period, or b) an individual camps 100 or more nights in his scouting career.

Sometimes scout units, camporees, summer camps, high adventure bases create their own custom camping patch for participation in a special event.

    Detour #1: The Night Hike

    • Evening Games
    • Service Project
    • Mealtime Cooking Challenge

Detour #2: Special Locations and Events

Many museums, living history farms, festival groups, museum ships, baseball fields and guest ranches are examples of these types of venues. Have you considered doing a Civil War campsite reactment?

Camp and Play: There are a number of boy scout camps that are located practically next door to major theme parks, zoos, museums, nature gardens, and more.
