County seat for Navajo County Holbrook is close to the Petrified Forest National Park and several major indian reservations. Founded in 1881 with the arrival of the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad and named after Henry R. Holbrook, chief engineer of the railroad project. The town of Holbrook itself is filled with the history of the Wild West. Still standing are the Blevins House, the scene of a bloody shootout between Sheriff Commodore Perry Owens and the Blevins gang in 1888. Don't miss the Santa Fe Depot and the Bucket of Blood Saloon.
Enjoy convenient access to some of Mother Nature's most beautiful landmarks including the Painted Desert, the Petrified Forest, the Meteor Crater and the Hopi Indian Reservation. Less than ten miles from Holbrook is McGee's Native American Gallery, Historic Route 66 and the Hidden Cove Golf Course. Get a taste of local heritage at the Bucket of Blood Saloon, the Pony Express Headquarters or the Holbrook Court, home of Native American dances in the summer months.
