    Welcome to Flagstaff, Arizona-Gateway to the Grand Canyon.

    Flagstaff's early economy was based on the lumber, railroad, and ranching industries. Today, the city remains an important industrial and distribution hub. It is home to Lowell Observatory and Northern Arizona University. Flagstaff has a strong tourism sector, due to its proximity to Grand Canyon National Park, Oak Creek Canyon, and historic Route 66.

Land and Peoples of the Colorado Plateau
The museum has exhibits covering archeology, biology, ethnology, geology and anthropology particularly relating to Northern Arizona. Annual spring exhibitions presented by Zuni, Hopi and Navajo craftsmen.

Lowell Observatory

Observatory was founded in 1894 by scientist Percival Lowell. Famous for many discoveries about Mars and finding the 9th planet Pluto in 1930. Today is still active with nine big telescopes including the 24-inch Clark refracting telescope. Nightly viewings are available.

Riordan Mansion State Historic Park

40-room mantion built by in 1904 by prominent lumberman family. Very lavish design and furnishings.

Grand Canyon Railway

Vintage locomotives and classic train cars take you across ever-changing terrain to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Onboard are strolling musicians, cowboys and refreshments. Museum at the restored 1908 Williams Depot covers railroading history. The 1910 Grand Canyon depot is built of pine logs.

Kaibab N.F.

One of six National Forests in Arizona operating under the care of the USDA Forest Service. Whether it's a visit to Sycamore Canyon, Kendrick Mountain or Kanab Creek, visitors will not be disappointed with the natural pleasures that await in the Kaibab National Forest.
