This 110 mile long but thin island has picturesque cliffs, hidden coves and pink-sand beaches. It is considered as one of the best destinations amongst the Out Islands of the Bahamas.

Name is Greek word meaning freedom - island was named by English dissidents that were shipwrecked here in 1648 in search of religious freedom. Island also features Victorian houses in the major towns of Habour Island and Spanish Wells. Local residents are able to grow pineapples, papayas, and a variety of vegetables.

The romantic village of Spanish Wells is located on St. George's Cay, off the northern tip of Eleuthera. It was used as a safe harbour by the Spanish during the 17th century while transferring their riches from the New World to the Old. Today it looks like a New England fishing village.
