St. Lucia (pop. 155,000) is located in the Lesser Antilles near
Martinique. Its capital is Castries
and English is the official language.
It is a classic example of a lush tropical rain forest island.
Numerous sugar plantations once covered the island.
One of the major draws for tourists to St. Lucia is its many fine beaches.
The island history reflects that control of the island switched
fourteen times between the British and French until the British got
permanent possession in 1814. Today St. Lucia is a member of the British
Commonwealth.

Nobel Prize for Literature, the square contains vegetation, a fountain
anda 400-year-old saman tree.
- Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception - Located near
Derek Walcott Square.
- National Library - great collection of antique maps of the

- Castries Market and Vendors Arcade - major local marketplace.
Tour Pigeon Island National Park
Once the home of Amerindians, a hideout for pirates, and a British
military base this scenic recreation area is famous for its beaches and
hiking and picnic areas. Pigeon Island is a small island joined to the mainland by a causeway
and is definitely worth your time to explore.
Tour Gros Islet
This beachside resort village located on the northshore and is close to Beausejour Cricket Grounds and Pigeon Island.
This town is a popular tourism spot featuring the Friday Night Street Party.
