You can find the Magic of Broadway at several dozen theaters centered around Times Square (between 41st and 55th streets and Eighth and Sixth avenues). Glittering marquees announce the latest production. And not quite as glamorous, but nearly just as good are the many Off-Broadway Theaters. And also keep your eye on the Special Event Venues.
The main distinction is that Broadway Theaters feature the big name stars, writers and directors in a larger showroom. Off-Broadway venues usually seat less than 300 and lean more towards avant-gard and revivals although they can still surpass mainstream Broadway in artistry.
Although many productions usually sell out way in advance you can try your luck for same-day half-price / discount theater tickets at the following locations. Most shows run Mon-Sat, 8PM in the evening with sometimes a Wednesday or Saturday matinee. Always call to verify show times. But there is usually a $2.50 surcharge added on to the half-price tickets.
Local newsstands and retail outlets also frequently offer discount theater ticket promotions. Please note that the most popular shows usually do not have discounts available.
