One of Hannibal's most famous residents was the 19th century author, Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain). Many historical landmarks related to this legendary writer are listed below.
Another famous local resident was Margaret Tobin who later married, joined Denver high society and then gained public fame as the The Unsinkable Molly Brown for helping passengers to safety from the sinking Titanic.
Hannibal is a popular birding destination as it lies on the southern end of the migration route for bald eagles who come to the high Mississippi River bluffs in the area. For best viewing try the Saverton Dam, about 9 miles north of town on SR-79. Also try the town of Clarksville which is south of Hannibal.
For a scenic drive along the Mississippi River, try the 86-mile stretch of SR-79 that goes from here south to St. Peters, MO. The best time of year to make this journey is in the fall when the trees turn bright colors.

Na riverboat sightseeing cruises of the Mississippi River
includes a Dixieland band dinner cruise. This triple-decker can
hold upto 400 passengers. One-hour trips depart daily
at 11AM, 1:30PM, 4PM.
Optical Science Center and Museum

Exhibits and optical light show demonstrate how contact lenses,
eyeglass frames and artificial eyes are made. Over 500 pairs of
unusual and antique eyeglasses.

Amusement park with bumper boats, shooting gallery, miniature golf
and other activities.
Rockcliffe Mansion

30-room mansion built in 1898 was one of the finest river estates
in the country.
Hannibal Old Jail Museum

Jail built in 1878 was used upto 1977. Displays include
albino deer, fossils, gifts and rock shop.

This hotel is conveniently located to the area lakes as well as the museums, Historical District, and Downtown.
Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) spent his boyhood in Hannibal, MO. Later he used this town as the setting for some of his most famous stories, including The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
Much of the downtown area has been restored to its mid-1800's appearance to re-create the town as it was during Twain's boyhood.

Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum

House built in 1843, by the father of Samuel Clemens and the
lad resided here between the ages of 7 and 18. Next door is a museum
with Twain memorabilia including first editions of his books, photographs,
original manuscripts and other memorabilia. Also look for 16 Norman
Rockwell paintings of Tom Sawyer themes.

Office and home of Dr. Grant, friend of the Clemens family, who
let them move in after they lost the family home.
Mark Twain Birthplace and Museum - State Historic Site

Enclosed in a modern structure is the small two-room cabin where
Samuel Clemens was born in 1835. Four years later the family moved to
Hannibal. Memorabilia from his life is also presented here.

Mark Twain Cave
Located 2 miles southeast of Hannibal on SR-79. (573) 221-1656;

Cavern with dry, lighted passages and a constant temperature of
52 degrees Fahrenheit. Made famous in Mark Twain's novel Tom Sawyer.
One-hour guided tours leave from the visitor center 9AM-4PM;
Becky Thatcher House

Becky Thatcher's parlor and bedroom has one of the largest
collections of books by and about Mark Twain. Large variety of other
gifts also.
Cameron Cave

This cavern is still in a nearly natural state, guided 90-minute
lantern tours depart daily from the Mark Twain Cavern visitors center.
Garth Woodside Mansion
Warren Barrett Dr, Hannibal, MO 63401; (573) 221-2789;
Built in 1871 by Col. John H. Garth, a close friend of Clemens.
This 20-room mansion includes a three-story flying staircase - one with
no visible means of support. Much of the ornate woodwork, Italian
marbles, furniture, draperies and carpets are original to Mr. Garth.
Unique Victorian holiday decorations adorn the mansion in December.

400 acres on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippe River.
Statue of Samuel Clemens stands at Inspiration Point.
Tom and Huck Monument
Located at the foot of Cardiff Hill are life-size figures of Huck
Finn and Tom Sawyer. In Twain's stories, this place was
Holliday Hill, the rendezvous point of Sawyer and his friends.

Staged on a 140-foot stage that re-creates a 19th century Hannibal street

Musical variety shows with eloborate costumes and dancing. Features
