    • Base Camp Programs for Younger Scouts

Camp Del Webb is primarily a Boy Scout High Adventure Outpost for older scouts located in the pines and aspens above Kolob Reservoir and Zion National Park in southern Utah. It is a popular adventure destination for scout troops from across the country.

Venturer Crew Units hike into outpost areas carrying a five to six days supply of food and their gear. Some of the features are mountain man camp, Indian village, black powder, backpacking, mountain bikes, canoeing, sailing and windsurfing, rappelling, homesteading, and rock climbing. Zion treks are also offered and are sure to be a highlight of any week.

Activity Areas such as Rappelling, Mountain Boarding, Mountain Biking, Shooting Sports and Canyoneering areas all have a different program. Scouts must be 13 or older to participate in treks. Younger scouts can camp at the Base Camp.

    Mountain Man Trek Adventures

Typical tour for each group involves wilderness backpacking to visit a variety of specialty themed remote outposts. Each crew carries close to a week's supply of food and their gear. Featured outpostes include:

    • Mountain Man Camp
    • Indian Village
    • Black Powder Range
    • Mountain Bike Trails
    • Canoe River Base
    • Kolob Reservoir - aquatics
    • Rock Climbing & Canyoneering
    • Zion National Park

One night during each trek will be spent at trail campsites away from all program areas. Although there maybe another crew in the vicinity of your campsites, the trail camps are essentially time for the crew to enjoy the experience of the high country without interference from other trekkers and staff. Because the campsites may not be on the Del Webb High Adventure Base property, it will be imperative that good Scout camping methods are emphasized to include the Outdoor Code and No Trace Camping. A view of Zion’s upper reaches make for spectacular photos at these outpost camps.

Zion Park Boy Scout Treks Zion Park Treks

Extended treks into Zion National Park are also offered and are sure to be a highlight of any week.

Numerous plant species as well as 289 species of birds, 75 mammals (including 19 species of bat), and 32 reptiles inhabit the Zion's four life zones: desert, riparian, woodland, and coniferous forest. The Park includes mountains, canyons, buttes, mesas, monoliths, rivers, slot canyons, and natural arches.

    Homestead Camp

You’ll find yourself in the old west in homestead camp. Learn forge work, cabin building, gold panning, bullwhips, archery, and other old west skills. Enjoy a BBQ and beans or Country Fried steak at the chuck wagon meal courtesy of the staff at this area.

    Earn Camp Fee Credits

Many BSA Camp Facilities will waive the camping fee for each participant in a group that completes a four-hour service project for the camp. [Need Ideas? Trail Repair / Camp Signage / Info Kiosk / Tent Repair / Painting and Maintenance / Weed Control / Road Repair / Donate Equipment]

Utah Mountain Man Scout Camp 1840s Mountain Man Camp

Let's go back to the 1800's where The Mountain Man's life was one of skill. Not only was he a trapper and woodsman without equal, he was also a trader, blacksmith, horse wrangler, teamster, doctor, gunsmith, tailor, explorer, packer and guide. We want trekkers who are willing to step back in time, to attempt for a short time, at least, to live life as man was meant to live it, as Free Individuals and true Sons of the Wilderness.

Trekkers will shoot black powder rifles, field archery adventure, throw tomahawks and knives, start a fire with flint and steal, set beaver traps, learn about our native American heritage, leather crafts, tall tales, and enjoy a mountain man’s Dutch oven feast. Leave your razor at home, break out the harmonica, and get ready to settle in for a real love Del Webb’s mountain man program.

Other outpost activities include blacksmith, target and field archery, cabin building, rock climbing, aquatics, windsurf, sail, fishing, kayak, and bike treks.

    Del Webb Base Camp

This facility features scouting programs for younger scouts ages 11 and up. Units staying at base camp can take a mid-week break for an exciting daytrip tubing the Virgin River or exploring back country trails.

There are over 25 cool merit badge programs:

    • Search & Rescue: Find a real airplane wreck
    • Forestry & Natural Sciences
    • Geocaching
    • Wilderness Survival

NOTE: Most youth camps are available year around to all youth groups and family activities regardless of affiliation. In fact many want your business to support their core operations.
