Cabrillo National Monument - Point Loma
Located on the tip of Point Loma - this major landmark offers the best
scenic views of the San Diego skyline and a host of other great features.
It is also a great vista to watch the big ships sail in or out of San Diego Bay.
The monument includes a tall statue of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo who is credited with the discovery of San Diego Bay on
Sept 28, 1542 and the first European to ever set foot on what is now the US West Coast.

First of the 21 missions and known as the Mother of the Missions, Mission San Diego de Alcala was founded on
July 16, 1769 by Blessed Junipero Serra. It was designated as a Minor Basilica in 1976 by Pope Paul VI.
The Mission today is an active Catholic Parish in the Diocese of San Diego.

Malibu Lagoon State Beach

Historic landmark founded by Juan Francisco Reyes, a Mexican soldier on the famous Portola expedition.
That expedition was the first group of non-natives to encounter life in pre-historic California in 1769.
Many generations of the Reyes family were important to California history.
Old Plank Road - Grays Well CA
From 1915 to 1925, the first highway across the shifting Algodone Sand Dunes was built on a
narrow wooden planks. A historic monument and replica of the road can be found about
3 miles west of the I-8 Sand Hills interchange.
