Mission San Juan Capistrano
The mission is famous today as the northern home for the
swallows that arrive in mid-March and
leave in mid-October for an approximately 6,000 mile migration to
Goya, Argentina. As early as 1777, the mission archives had already
noted the regular appearance of these birds and a village festival to
welcome them had already become tradition.
Mission San Luis Rey de Francia - Oceanside CA
Known as the "King of Missions" - Mission San Luis Rey is the
largest of the California missions and a national landmark. Franciscan friars at the mission
conduct regular tours. This church still holds regular worship services and hosts special
functions during the week.
Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala
California's First Church
First of the 21 missions and known as the Mother of the Missions, Mission San Diego de Alcala was founded on
July 16, 1769 by Blessed Junipero Serra. It was designated as a Minor Basilica in 1976 by Pope Paul VI.
The Mission today is an active Catholic Parish in the Diocese of San Diego.
Claremont School of Theology
Graduate school located in Claremont, California, offering Master of Art, Masters of Divinity, Doctorate of Ministry and Ph.D. degrees in religion and theology.
This Methodist school also supports the Ancient Biblical Manuscript Center, Center for Process Studies,
Episcopal Theological School and the Disciples Seminary Foundation.
Azusa Pacific University [APU]
APU was founded in 1899 as the first bible college on the west coast. It is the result of the
merger between Azusa College, LA Pacific College and Arlington College. Home to the APU Cougars
athletic program and highly evolved school of music with a busy student concert schedule.
San Diego Mormon Temple
Although admittance is restricted to members of the LDS church, the exterior grounds are
open to free public tours daily. The best time to visit (but also most crowded)
is on Saturdays when an average of over two dozen wedding parties are passing through
to solemnize marriage vows and to take pictures on the lawns and gardens.
