The recreation center and park are located on 40 acres which consist of an indoor gymnasium, various size rooms for meetings and rent, play areas for young and old, eight ball fields, two outdoor basketball courts, a large outdoor gazebo, six tennis courts, lawn bowling, and Josyln Center. There is also a two acre dog park, located at the south end of the community park.

A private, member-owned club, the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo offers an 6,532 yard, 18 hole par 72 Championship golf course designed by William F. Bell and updated by Ted Robinson. The course is well recognized and has been the site of USGA Qualifying Tournaments. The 20,000 square foot Mediterranean style club house is elegantly furnished and provides a setting for formal and informal dining, dinner dances, private parties, tournament luncheons and bridge parties.

When full, The Lake Hodges Reservoir has 1,234 surface acres, a maximum water depth of 115 feet, and 27 shoreline miles. The lake was created by a river control dam built in 1918. This is the big lake between Rancho Bernardo and Escondido on the San Dieguito River that the I-15 freeway cuts across (built in 1981).

Lake Hodges Native Plant Club - to increase appreciation, knowledge and enjoyment of native and drought-resistant plants, encourage their propagation and preservation, protect indigenous wild life, support water conservation and promote the establishment of a native plant preserve.

Trails:Located in a coastal canyon, Lake Hodges offers an environment that serves as a pleasant backdrop to a variety of recreational uses, including fishing, boating, sailing, bike and horseback riding, and picnicking. The dirt hiking and riding trails around much of the lake wind through ever-changing terrain and biological settings which include streams, lush river valleys, canopied oak forests, arid rocky terrain and open fields. The topography changes from elevated vistas to marsh-like wetlands.

Fishing: - The fishery consists of Florida-strain largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, bullhead and carp.

San Dieguito River Park
Partially completed Coast-to-Crest wilderness trail follows the path of the San Dieguito Rivier. The Park will someday extend from the ocean at Del Mar to Volcan Mountain, just north of Julian and may even connect with the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park just beyond. It will wind past Rancho Santa Fe, Fairbanks Ranch, Escondido, Lake Hodges and Lake Sutherland.
