Founded in 1782, El Presidio was the last Spanish military fortress built in North America.
It was completed four years before the historic Mission Santa Barbara.

Build by the fifth commander of El Presidio as his family home (1819-1825), this place was the scene of many important social gatherings and events
in early Santa Barbara.
State Street Victorian Homes
A block of Victorian-era homes are located just west of State Street on Brinkerhoff Avenue, between Cota and
Haley streets. Some of these have been coverted into antique stores and gift shops.

Since its incorporation as a non-profit organization in 1963, the primary long-range goal of the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation
has been the reconstruction of El Presidio de Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara's 18th century birthplace. About the size of a city block in the center of town,
El Presidio is a living history site interpreting the Spanish, Mexican, and Native American heritage of Santa Barbara for students, the
local community, and visitors from all over the world.
Mission Santa Barbara - Queen of the Missions

Open: Daily 9AM-5PM; Admission: $4 Adult / Child under 12 free;
Founded Dec 4, 1786 on the Feast of St. Barbara and completed in 1820.
This is one of the best preserved of the old Spanish Mission of California.
Only mission to stay in continuous use since founding. Original missionary
residence and guest rooms are now a museum exhibit. Many examples of early
Mexican art including an 1808 Moorish fountain.

Spanish-Moorish style building dating to 1929. Murals and Tunisian tile
decorate the interior. For great views of the city, go upto the top of the 80-foot tower.
