California Whale Watching Tours : Jan-Mar
From January through March, some 28,000 Pacific Gray Whales make their annual migration up along
the coast to their summer Alaska feeding grounds. During the summer Blue and Humpback Whales also

Local Wildlife
Elephant Seals - Large colony lives along the coast at Piedras
Blancas, north of Cambria. Over 1,800 new pups born each year that will grow to over 3,000 pounds.

Sea Otters - These entertaining creatures are best spotted in early morning
or late afternoon in the water along Morro Rock or Montana de Oro's State Park.
California Gray Whales - These mammoth creatures can be seen right along the
coast during their annual migration from Alaska to Baja California, Dec-Mar.
Monarch Butterflies - Thousands of
the beautiful butterflies arrive every winter. Best seen at
Morro Bay State Beach,
Montana de Oro State Park or
Pismo State Beach.
Hellhole Canyon County Preserve
1712-acre preserve with over 11 miles of hiking and equestrian trails.
Explore exquisite oak woodlands, mountain creeks or sweeping hilltop panorama views.
This wildlife habitat hosts mountain lion, coyote, rattlesnakes and various bird species.
Picacho State Recreation Area
Lower Colorado River
100 years ago Picacho was a gold mining town with 100 citizens.
Today the site is a State Park, popular with boaters, hikers, anglers and campers.
The park offers diverse scenery, including beavertail cactus, wild burros, bighorn sheep and thousands of migratory waterfowl.
