The Battery - also known as White Point Gardens, is located on the southern tip of the peninsula overlooking the waterfront. It is named for the fortifications built by the original settlers to defend against sea attack. Today it a park with palmettos and live oaks overlooking war relics from different ages of the past. Many guided tours include this as a stop on their itineraries.
Edmondston-Alston House

Built in 1828 by wealthy merchant and wharf owner Charles Edmondston.
Later sold to the Alston Family who redecorated it in Greek Revival style.
30-minute guided tours allow visitors to see the elaborate family
possessions and furnishings including portraits, engravings, silverware,
porcelain and the elaborate woodworking.
Calhoun Mansion
16 Meeting St, Charleston, SC; (843) 722-8205;
Open: Wed-Sun 10AM-4PM; Admission: $15 Adult / $7 Child (5-10);
This Victorian mansion, built in 1876, was one of the most
elaborate showplaces of the South. Guided 45-minute tours take visitors
to see the ornate moldings, tile flooring, woodwork, giant skylight and gas chandeliers.
Nathaniel Russell House
51 Meeting St, Charleston, SC; (843) 724-8481;
Open: Mon-Sat 10AM-5PM / Sun 2PM-5PM; Admission: $7;
Built in 1808 for a wealthy merchant, Nathaniel Russell, this house
is a fine example of Federal architecture. Guided tours take visitors
to see freestanding spiral staircases, oval drawing rooms and other
details of Charleston craftsmanship.

Cabbage Row was named for the buildings along Church St at Elliot st when vegetable farmers would come to display there goods for sale. Several prominent buildings stand at the junction of Broad and Meeting Streets, including City Hall.
City Hall
Located at the confluence of Broad and Meeting streets, this
building first served as the United States Bank when completed in 1801.
Inside is John Trumbull's 1791 portrait of George Washington.
Dock Street Theater
Church and Queen Streets, Charleston, SC; (843) 965-4032;
Opened in 1736 as America's first building designed for theatrical
performances. In early 1800's the theaters ruins became the Planters
Hotel. In mid-1930's the hotel was transformed again into the new
Dock Street Theater. Frequent performances.
Gibbes Museum of Art
135 Meeting St, Charleston, SC; (843) 722-2706;
Exhibits of American paintings, Japanese woodblock prints, sculpture
and other high quality artwork. Changing exhibits, concerts and lectures
regularly occur during the year.
Heyward-Washington House
87 Church St, Charleston, SC; (843) 722-0354;
Famous house build in 1772 by Daniel Heyward for his son, Thomas Heyward,
a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Tour includes visit
to main house, kitchen house, servants' quarters and garden.
Huguenot Church
136 Church St, Charleston, SC; (843) 722-4385;
Great gothic church built in 1845 on the site of the original
built in 1687.
One of the few remaining French Protestant churches in the country.
For over 150 years services were conducted in French, but now English
is used.
Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon
122 East Bay at Broad, Charleston, SC; (843) 727-2165;
Exchange and Customs House built by the British in 1771. In the
following years they imprisoned prominent American Revolutionary
patriots in the cellar. In 1788, its Great Hall was used by the
State of South Carolina to ratify the Constitution. Excavations in
the dungeon reveal the original city wall dating to the late 1600's.

St. Michael's Episcopal Church
Broad and Meeting Sts, Charleston, SC; (843) 723-0603;
The second Episcopal church of Charleston, started in 1751. The
Palladian Doric portico and steeple rise 186 feet above the street.
Its clocktower has kept time since 1764. Richly ornamented interior.
Washington Square - City Hall Park
Broad and Meeting Sts, Charleston, SC;
Includes monuments honoring prominent South Carolina citizens.
