The Spanish were the first to attempt to settle Winyah Bay in 1526 but were driven away by disease. English settlers then came in the early 18th century. Its deepwater harbor made it a triving porttown.

Hopsewee Plantation

1740 plantation house was home of Thomas Lynch, a South Carolina delegate to the first Continental Congress and his son, Thomas Jr., a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The house is a "preservation" project more than a "restoration", having never been allowed to fall into decay. It is a classic example of a low county rice plantation home on a brick foundation. Furnished with 18th and 19th century antiques, this house is open from attic to cellar.

Kaminski House Museum

The house displays early period furnishings of the 17th to 20th centuries.

Prince George Winyah Church - Episcopal

Kaminski House Museum

The Kaminski House was built circa 1769 and today holds a noteworthy collection of 18th- and 19th-century American and European antiques. Also has several interesting examples of Charleston's cabinetmakers of the 1800's.

Musuem portrays the history of the rice industry in the United States. Includes a cross-section scale model of a rice mill.
