Charleston Museum

Established in 1773 and considered the oldest museum in the country although it is housed in modern facilities. Exhibits focus primarily on the history, natural history, archeology and ornithology of Charleston and Lowcountry region.

Built in 1803 by Joseph Manigault, a wealthy rice planter. It is a noteworthy example of Adam style architecture and has several fine samples of early Charleston, English and French furniture. Look for the hidden stairway connecting the second and third floors.
