Topic Overview
The Hot Tours section below has info on the best events, resorts, travel tips, and hot spots from around the world. Stalactites are icicle-shaped masses of Calcite that hangs from the roof of a cave formed by the precipitation caused by ground water. Stalagmites is a cone of Calcite rising from the floor of a cave, formed by the same process. Pillars are frequently formed when a Stalagmite and Stalactite have both grown to meet each other. Calcite (CaCO2 - calcium carbonate) is a widely used mineral that has a wide range of colors (impurities in its mineral content). Calcite occurs naturally in Marble, Limestone, and Alabastar. It is a common building stone and the raw material for quicklime and cement.
Stalagmites and Stalactites
These are mineral forms found in caves and sometimes referred to collectively as Dripstone. Many colors are often seen in these formations caused by impurities in the water and limestone.
