Established in 1784 by Scotsman William Michie, the Tavern served as the social center of its community and provided travelers with food, drink and lodging.

This place takes you back 200 years. Visitors dine on authentic homemade southern fare served by hostess in period costumes. Afterwards you can enjoy a tour through time and visit the tavern museum.

Taverns served not only as a place to eat, drink and sleep, but also as the center of the community. The second floor Assembly Room once served as a ballroom, makeshift school room, a place for worship and for extra sleeping accommodations.

Michie Tavern offers an educational packet which includes an overview of our Tavern's history, lesson plans as well as an additional resource material listing. Our educational packet is free of charge and appropriate for a home or classroom setting.

Michie Tavern is also available as an ideal location for banquets, weddings and other group events.
