Where

Home of the national collection of modern art in the North, Tate Liverpool is one of the largest galleries of modern and contemporary art outside London.

While Tate Liverpool has no permanent collection of its own, it shares the resources and contents of the vast centralised Tate holdings, which consist of nearly 70,000 works. Its strength lies in major exhibitions, which have included, in recent years, the work of Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol and René Magritte.

The gallery’s expertise in mounting special exhibitions of modern and contemporary art has allowed it to tour events to the US, Korea and Japan, as well as across Europe.

Permanent collection
A selection of works from the Tate permanent collection is always on show at Tate Liverpool. Displays have included canvases by early modern masters such as Picasso and Braque, Dada and Surrealist pieces by Duchamp and Ernst, and contemporary work by Simon Starling.
