It’s lively, vibrates to the sound of reggae, and it’s busy, that’s Brixton Market. The market extends from a narrow arcade, just south of Brixton Station, all the way round to Atlantic Road and beyond, occupying the grid of alleys and roads beneath the railway bridges.   Brixton Market offers the largest collection of Afro-Caribbean foodstuffs in Europe, an assortment from shark and goats’ meat, pigs’ tails and salt fish to plantain, okra, breadfruit and yams.  The slightly frayed Granville and Market Row arcades have the best provisions and are renowned for their superb exotic fish.  Other goods for sale include spices, herbs, potions, incense, religious tracts sold by Rastafarian priests trendy clothes and an incredible range of wigs.   Bric-a-brac and cheap second-hand clothes stalls are on offer in Brixton Station Road.  Free
